God’s warriors versus atheistic warriors .

talking about God’s warriors on CNN:
As one of readers of this blog did point it out: ” To get an accurate comparison, there should have been a comparison to atheistic warriors.”

It is hard to overlook that atheists like Pol Pot! Mao and Stalin killed more than any religious warriors !! After all atheism is just another religion with its own dogmas its own rituals and more aggressive and intolerant as any religion ever.

Obviously that programs like “God’s warriors” are targeting religion in general and Christianity in the first place . So, by doing that these programs are, de-facto, is propaganda of atheism . Why nobody would address issue of atheism and all destruction that atheism inflicted on civilization? Nobody is interested in destructive historical role of atheisms just because Bush cannot be blamed for that ?

The atheists which you point out (Pol Pot, Mao, and Stalin) weren’t fighting for atheism. They were fighting for communism, land, or mere political power. In most cases, atheism is a mere tool used by these people to help crush discord and opposition — since religions by their nature organize folks. Atheism is a mere tool to aid in gaining their objective – dictatorial power.

The program pointed out that these ‘Warriors of God’ do not have a political agenda — other that as a tool to spread their religion.

“The program pointed out that these ‘Warriors of God’ do not have a political agenda — other that as a tool to spread their religion.”
Really ? well it is either a spin or just lousy journalism because
    1. CNN named among God’s warriors politicians such as Rafat Bayat ( a member of the Iranian parliament) Massoumeh Ebtekar (Iran’s first female vice president.) Geert Wilders (a member of the Dutch parliament) Morris Amitay is the former executive director of AIPAC/ political organization) Dov Hikind (a New York state assemblyman )Shimon Peres Israel president ) Peter Rodman (a former assistant secretary of state in the Bush administration). How is it possible to talk about politicians and in the same time claim that these politicians do not have a political agenda ? It is either ignorant or politically motivated ( may be both?) ( by the way Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not listed as god’s warriors despite the fact that his country declared the export of Islam through a war as a constitutional goal for Iranian army , but in the same time the majority of listed politicians are Jews: why is that?)
    2. The title of the program is not a “religious believers” or not even “religious fanatics” program called “God’s warriors “. “Warriors” are, by definition, those who are participating in a war. War is according to Clausewitz’s description a “continuation of politics”. Thus, to tell that “Warriors of God” who are participating in a war (which is a form of politic) do not have a political agenda is an oxymoron.
    3. Jihad is a religious war . Those who are participating in Jihad are God’s warriors. Do you think that jihad has no political agenda because it is religious war ?
    4. actions like killing of Theo Van Gogh , or anti-cartoon riots are designed with the ultimate purpose to influence politics and make a political statement. Any doubts about that ?
“The atheists which you point out (Pol Pot, Mao, and Stalin) weren’t fighting for atheism. They were fighting for communism, land, or mere political power.”
Atheists were fighting against religion (read The Gulag Archipelago with data about extermination of religion in the USSR) and it makes their fight anti-religious and therefore related directly to religion.
“In most cases, atheism is a mere tool used by these people to help crush discord and opposition — since religions by their nature organize folks. Atheism is a mere tool to aid in gaining their objective – dictatorial power.”
This is just bluntly incorrect , quite an opposite, it is a true: the communism is an ideology ( which is very close to religion, by the way) which has own goals (one of those goals is extermination of a religion) and dictatorship is a tool of achieving of these goals . Read Marx and Lenin about that.

  3. Communism (at least in Russia) had all hallmarks of a religions. For instance, the fact that Lenin’s mummified body is on display since 1924, just like a religious relic, or that every party headquarters in every town had a “Lenin room”, just like a shrine — complete with pictures of Lenin, his statue etc.

  4. John

Conservative Christians are anything but Christlike. The man for whom this ‘religion’ is named stated in the gospels that He did not come here to establish a religion, yet before a century had passed after His death, there was already a clash ‘tween the ‘faithful’ that is still going on. Jesus was all about inclusion, ALL of us being children of God, no exception! To look at at the face of religion (ANY religion) today, there is exclusion everywhere. If we are already forgiven our ‘sins’, God already is aware of our shortcomings, loves us with all HIS power, and knows tgat we are able to do likewise wih the rest of HIS children, our brothers and sisters. Religion teaches to hate those who are different than us, condemn them when not even God does that. So many christians just love to quote book, chapter, and verse from the old testament, when Jesus Himself said “I bring you a new GOSPEL” If anything destroys this planet, it will religion, by what it does, and what it doesn’t do.

  5. to John:
    1.
If indeed any “Religion teaches to hate those who are different than us, condemn them when not even God does that.” why in this case you are saying that only “conservative Christians are anything but Christlike.” ?This is a very twisted logic: What about Muslims, Buddhists …not conservative Christians etc.? The essence of your statement that you are not that much against a religion as such you are against “conservative Christians” and this is a political stand which has nothing to do with religion per se.
    2.
“Religion teaches to hate those who are different than us, condemn them when not even God does that.”
This is may be true , but atheism is definitely teaches us to hate religion and those who are religious. Does it bother you anyhow? If not , why? You are an example of this anti religious bias. You do hate those who believe same way as religious sea lots hate unbelievers. So, how atheists in your view are better than religious people?
    3.
How you can say that “Jesus was all about inclusion, ALL of us being children of God, no exception! “ and in the same time to conclude that “Religion teaches to hate those who are different than us, condemn them when not even God does that.” ?
One of these statement must be wrong (if it is a problem for you)
    4.
“To look at at the face of religion (ANY religion) today, there is exclusion everywhere.” This is just not true. Read my comment about that . Muslim world is intolerant unlike any other religion. There is no comparison. And this is why left want to blame not Islam for recent violence including beheading of Jews and Christians and for 9/11 but religion as a whole.

    5.
“ If anything destroys this planet, it will religion, by what it does, and what it doesn’t do.”
Well in other words atheists will hold religion responsible for everything what people are doing ( if results will be wrong) it is exactly the point of my posting . Atheists are blaming a religion for everything same way as religious zealots are blaming those who unbelievers , what is the difference? You , without bother yourself with any logical foundation are blaming religion for “ end of the world” religious zealots are blaming those who is not following religion for the end of the world. You are the same.
    6.
I doubt that you did bother to read what I wrote. My main question was : Why nobody would address issue of atheism and all destruction that atheism inflicted on civilization? Do you have an answer?

  6. Atheism may well be spurred on by the refusal of religions to engage in self-criticism. I’ve just read http://deligentia.wordpress.com/2009/11/24/263/ on how foreign self-criticism is to religion, and, moreover, how religion misunderstands itself. You might be interested in it.
